Zhengzhou Business University is a full-time undergraduate university founded in 2004 by Dr. Wang Guangya, a well-known educator in Taiwan who was born in Gongyi, Henan province. The university has won the approval of the National Education Ministry and became an independently managed, private-owned, full-time university. Its predecessor, Chenggong College of Henan University of Economics and Law, was an independent college built in cooperation with Henan University of Economics and Law. In March 2012, it was changed to Zhengzhou Chenggong University of Finance and Economics as it became an independent undergraduate university. In November 2018, it was renamed Zhengzhou Business University. The school is located in the cultural city of Gongyi and has started walking the road of philosophical development, striving to further transform the university into a first-class, well-known and business and commerce-oriented undergraduate university.
Since its establishment, the school has adhered to the socialist tradition of running schools, by fully implementing the Communist Party's educational policies, firmly establishing the fundamental task of educating students to become virtuous people and following the rules for higher education. The school has also adopted the motto of "diligence, sincerity, self-reliance and growth", upheld the university philosophy of "ethics, innovation, quality and achievement", and promoted the school spirit of "love your country, love your school, study peacefully and tidily". The school adheres to the “five good” principles of “good teachers, good equipment, good management, good rules and good living conditions”. After years of development, it has become clear that the orientation and development model of becoming a business and commerce-oriented undergraduate university has not wavered. Ms. Wang Yuhua, the chairman of the board of directors, has fully inherited the founder's school-running principles, educational philosophy and outstanding character. She has put forward the requirements of “goals and goal-oriented actions”, “teamwork and team responsibility”, “work attitude and details”, and has pointed out the direction for the development of the school. Based on the Communist Party's general and specific educational policies and the economic development strategy of the country and Henan Province, the school reviews and summarizes its own experience in running a school and puts forward the development idea of being more “student-centered, teacher-guided, service-oriented and system-protected”, thus opening a new journey for the development of the school.
According to the urgent need of economic and social development for high-quality business talents, the school has systematically optimized the structure of disciplines and majors, and it has gradually formed a professional layout with economics and management as the main subjects and coordinated development of literature, engineering, art, pedagogy, law and other disciplines. There are 11 teaching units: (1) Business Administration College, (2) Accounting College, (3) Finance and Trade College, (4) Foreign Language College, (5) Information, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering College, (6) Art College, (7) Literary and Journalistic Communication College, (8) Architectural Engineering College, (9) General Education College, (10) Marxist College and (11) Sports College. Among 58 undergraduate and specialty majors, Business Administration is the key discipline at the provincial level; Business Administration (ERP) is the construction point of provincial characteristic specialty; Computer Science and Technology, Financial Management and Accounting are the pilot specialties of provincial comprehensive reform; Eleven majors in business administration, accounting, financial management, computer science and technology, animation, international economy and trade, Chinese language and literature, business English, environmental design, auditing and English are the construction points of brand specialty in provincial private colleges and universities; International Economics and Trade, Accounting, Computer Science and Technology are two-degree majors. The school “ERP Comprehensive Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center” is the experimental teaching demonstration center of Henan universities.
Teachers are composed of many professors, doctors and other senior talents, with an abundance of specializations. In addition, the school has made full use of social resources to build an “off-campus teacher pool” and “dual-competence” teaching team. Many experts have been employed as visiting professors, specially appointed professors and professional construction consultants, including national experts with outstanding contributions, experts enjoying special allowances from the government of the State Council, outstanding experts in provincial administration, provincial academic and technological leaders, well-known scholars at home and abroad and leaders of large enterprises. Among the existing full-time teachers in the school, 37.47% are teachers with senior professional titles, 79.92% are teachers with master's or doctoral degrees, and 30.69% are double-qualified teachers. Among them, there is one teacher who received a title of being Outstanding at the provincial level, five who are acknowledged Culture teachers at the provincial level, eight academic and technical leaders at the Henan Education Department, and seven who were awarded the title of Youth Backbone teachers at the provincial level.
The campus covers an area of more than 383 acres. It has a many high standard teaching buildings, such as the Accounting Building, Foreign Language Building, Information Building, Art building, Laboratory Building, Administrative Building, Library, and Comprehensive Service Center. It has also built multi-functional electronic reading rooms, an E-zone and a campus network system. The school has 159 experimental training rooms and practice places which are suitable for teaching, such as three-dimensional dynamic capture laboratory, simultaneous interpretation laboratory and a three-dimensional tourism simulation laboratory. In recent years, the school has established six experimental centers, namely, the economic management experiment center, foreign business language experiment center, business art experiment center, education and new media experiment center, information and electromechanical engineering experiment center, and construction engineering experiment center. The school has one provincial experimental teaching demonstration center and 194 off-campus practice and training bases with enterprises, institutions and industries.
In order to focus on teaching development and reform, the school has built a “4+1+X”curriculum system, namely “four modules, one feature, one application”, which consolidates the practical teaching of the “Hierarchical and emphasis on the system”, pays attention to the integration of production and education, collaborative education, and actively explores the “three integrations and one coherence” talent training model. In the past three years, we have undertaken 409 educational reform projects at all levels, edited and published 66 textbooks, and built a provincial-level online open course.
To further focus on the importance of applied scientific research, the school has offered its services for the local economic development and cultural heritage, and to the establishment of the Regional Economic Development Research Center, the Henan Business Culture Research Center and the Du Fu Research Institute. In the past three years, the school teachers have been approved to work on 920 projects at the department level and above, have received 468 awards at the department level and above, published 354 core papers and finished 106 horizontal research projects. The “Study on the Evolution, Characteristics and Implementation Strategies of Labor Education in China's Universities in the 70 Years of New China (1949-2019)” was approved by the school. The project was also approved by the National Education Science’s “13th Five-Year Plan” project, achieving the first breakthrough to be published on a national level for our school. The overall strength of the school's research work ranks among the top private universities in henan province.
To strengthen the development of students' dual ability, the school established an innovation and entrepreneurship center, established a trinity of dual-institutional organizations, built a three-instructor dual-creation team, constructed a three-in-one dual-creation curriculum system, created a three-in-one dual-innovation competition system and improved the three-in-one dual-invention practice platform. All this was set up in order to cultivate the consciousness of college students’ innovation and entrepreneurship. In 2017, the school's creation space was named as a provincially significant space in Henan both for academia and the general public. The school has won honors such as the Henan University Student Entrepreneurship Education Demonstration School and the Outstanding Employment of Graduates of Henan Province.
In order to strengthen overseas exchanges and cooperation, the school established cooperative relationships with 8 universities in the United Kingdom, South Korea, Malaysia, Spain and Taiwan, actively carried out overseas exchange studies, internships and employment projects, hosted 8 cross-strait academic exchange meetings, organized “Taiwan Youth Central Plains Cultural Tour” and regularly selected outstanding students to study in Taiwan. In recent years, a total of 244 students and 56 teachers have gone abroad to exchange ideas.
In recent years, the school's quality of running a school, the level of running a school, and a good school spirit have been widely recognized and praised by the higher education administrative departments and the community. It has won the Best Run Undergraduate College in China award, the National Education Reform and Innovation Model School, the higher education teaching in Henan Province award and a number of provincial and above honors such as the Advanced Work Group and the outstanding employment of graduates of Henan Province. In 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018, the school was rated “Outstanding Private School of Henan Province” by the Provincial Department of Education. People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Guangming Daily, China Youth Daily, China Education News, Henan Daily, People's Daily, Xinhuanet and other media have repeatedly reported on the school's management.
